What is Namo Shetkari Yojana?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi Scheme in October 2023. This scheme provides an extra rupees 6000 to Shetkari families in Maharashtra in three equal installments, so that local small farmers will receive rupees 12,000 in Samman Nidhi. To formalize the plan, a Government Resolution (No. Kisani-2023/CR 42/11 A) was published on June 15, 2023. The Prime Minister of India stated on October 5, 2024, that the farmers of Maharashtra will get an extra rupees 2,000 crore as part of the 5th phase of the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana.

Objective Namo Shetkari Yojana
The Namo Shetkari Yojana was initiated by the Maharashtra State Government primarily to provide financial stability to the state’s impoverished farmers. The plan provides them with financial assistance of rupees 6000 per year to help them reach their objective, enabling them to cease relying on others for financial support and become self-sufficient. - Those who apply must own agricultural land and be small or marginal farmers.
- Additional assistance under NSMNY is immediately available to farmers who receive benefits under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) requires a bank account that is connected to Aadhaar.
- The beneficiary records that the Indian government provides must contain the names of the applicants. Farmers from economically disadvantaged groups or those with low incomes are typically qualified.
- No member of the family should work for the government or pay taxes.
